Panasonic TC-58LE64

In the LE64 series, Panasonic only offers two sizes big (50”) and bigger (58”). This 120Hz panel includes Panasonic’s 240 Back Light Blinking and Pro dot noise reduction technologies. It’s a VIERA Connect Smart TV with built in Wi-Fi and a full Web browser.

Panasonic is making the LE64s hugely attractive. The ultra slim bezel surrounds this 58” panel and adds a bottom accent of clear plastic. The only thing marring this beauty is the uninspired base that is black, rectangular and mounts to the 1.4” deep panel with a single circular post.

VIERA Smart TV has a new format that gives you a home screen that you can customize to include up to a dozen selectable apps giving you easy access to time, weather, Facebook, reminders and more. The Smart TV platform also includes two preset pages for lifestyle and information.

The Swipe & Share 2.0 is Panasonic’s term for their interactive technology to allow you to share and augment the Panasonic TC-58LE64 with your smartphone and/or tablet. Sharing info is as easy as a flicking your finger across the smartphone screen or swiping to transfer Panasonic TC-58LE64 info. After uploading the VIERA Remote 2 app, you can flick pics, videos, music and web content, use your devices as a TV remote and as a second screen. The TC-58LE64 is also DLNA Certified and Bluetooth compatible.

The Panasonic TC-58LE64 also comes with Voice Guidance to help you set up your Panasonic TC-58LE64 and there is an auto detect feature to find available Internet networks so you don’t have to.

AV connections are a bit sparse giving you only three HDMI (all rear facing – one ARC), two USB and one each of a component/composite shared input, an Ethernet, digital audio output and a headphone jack.

Panasonic’s focus is on picture quality and motion performance not sound. The Panasonic TC-58LE64 carries a full range two speaker system that is only capable of a 20-watt output. Don’t expect thundering bass or tonsil tickling treble.

Conclusion

The BLB technology on the Panasonic TC-58LE64s 120Hz panel should negate blur in fast action and sport viewing.

Apps are plentiful on the Panasonic TC-58LE64, though not as bountiful as Samsung or LG. Connectivity options for integrating your smartphone and/or tablet are good but do not include the newest WiDi, Miracast, MHL and NFC.

Also missing is a dual, quad or hexa core processor to help downloading speed and multitasking and a remote that is designed to ease interfacing with the Smart TV and browser. For a very reasonably priced 58” flat panel Smart TV, give the Panasonic TC-58LE64 a hard long look.
